In honor of International Women's Day, I'm going to share a poem by one of my newest friends, Hallie Widner.

Home

When the final light had faded

And arctic winds embrace me

When loneliness is everything

And hope becomes my misery

Where the heavy crush of roses,

fragrant, with death and loss

flow over me, suffocating

swept up as bitter dross

Inside abandoned churches

On sacred ground, now rotten

Beneath those lofty arches

The bones of saints, forgotten

This is where my soul has fled,

a ravaged heart too scattered

apart from me, if not to heal

the parts where I've shattered

Somehow, no matter where I hide

or how broken I've become

your warmth awaits in every place

pulling me back

to you

to home
